New Year's Eve

About 20 villagers met in the village hall to see in the New Year. The pub in the village has been closed for some years, and is much missed, so the idea of a pop up pub gained ground. People bring their own drinks and snacks and the village hall is hired for a couple of hours. Card games were played, and jokes shared. That's the thing about villages: you're thrown together not because you're similar and have the same interests, but because you live in the same village. So it makes for an interesting mix of people. In the towns, same-interest groups prevail, because there are enough people to support them, but in a village of about 450 people, like East Chinnock, you find community where the people live.
