H J Massingham (who probably wrote too much) published 'Field Fellowship' in 1942 which gave his reflections on life and people in the Cotswolds. Here are some of mine from south Somerset.

8am service, West Coker, Somerset
St Martin's, West Coker on a Sunday morning as the sky lightens, as I make my way in for a service. These days, an 8am Holy Communion, conducted in archaic seventeenth century language, is not a crowd-puller. But there's a strange beauty about the quietness of the service, its poise and unhurriedness, and the requirement for the priest just to conduct the service, and let the ancient rhythm of the language assert itself. Afterwards, the rest of the day seems to fall into place.
